Love Your Neighbor As Yourself
If there's one thing to be sure about in this world is the fact that there's no mercy anywhere. The police happily pull the trigger and are quick to maul suspects without a second thought. Traders and business people will smile nicely at you but will rip you off whenever they get the chance. Your friend will call you brother, yet snitch on you but later pretend to know nothing.
I am fully convinced that this world is full of heartless men and women, waiting for an opportunity to take advantage of the next person. I have lived in different societies and experienced the extremes of society and this right here is facts. The smart people in the corporate world are as wicked as the superstitious illiterate living in the village without electricity.
For this reason, I have come to believe that knowledge is no match for wisdom. A lot of us are knowledgeable but we engage in some vices thinking that the knowledge we've acquired can save us. The knowledge gives us access to the best lawyers who find loopholes in the system to get us out of trouble. But we forget that these lawyers are mere mortals and as such, they can't save us from the impartial laws of the universe, otherwise known as the golden rule, popularly known as karma.
For those not familiar with the golden rule, it states that "Do unto others as you wish others to do unto you". It's as simple as that but so hard for humans to put into practice. We'll cry about being treated badly and then turn around the next second and do the same thing to another person. Creating an endless loop of people hurting people.
When I was a freshman in high school, a boarding school, we used to cry and complain about the bullying we received from seniors. Then we also became seniors and guess what? We did the same thing and even worse. This is exactly how the world is, one big boarding school where evil trumps good. You either bully or you get bullied. No two ways.
This is why I cringe when I hear the average person talking about love, kindness, and respect when it is very hard to find these virtues in modern times without strings attached. As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid bullies but if it is beyond me, I'd rather take the bullying than be the bully. This is not weakness as the world sees it, but wisdom.
Wisdom is knowing that you can get away with your misdeeds in the eyes of men, but can't escape the justice of the creator. You'll definitely reap whatever you sow. Whatever you do unto others will also be done unto you, even in a greater measure. That's the wisdom in treating others as you'd want to be treated. Because good things will always come to you if you treat others well.
Those that have wisdom will not waste their energy playing the rat race because it never ends. Did you not hear the master, when he said that blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy? Life is a war, between good and evil. Which side are you on? Are you taking advantage of people, or you're treating people with kindness and respect?
